Event could challenge wing lovers

The fifth annual Steel Valley Wing Challenge will take place Sept. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Tiffany’s Banquet Center, 601 Bedford Road SE.

Guests can sample more than 30 wings from the Lake Tavern, the Rig, Ohio Inn, the Lime Tree, RP McMurphy’s, Our Gang’s Lounge, Drunkin Moose BBQ, Big D’s Newton Grill and Tiffany’s Banquet Center.

Celebrity judges will include state Rep. Glenn Holmes, state Sen. Sean O’Brien, Trumbull County Commissioner Frank Fuda, Andrew Thompson of the Gibson Agency and Doug Fenstermaker of King Collision. Derek Steyer of 21 WFMJ-TV will be the master of ceremonies.

The event will include entertainment by Youngstown native and Nashville-based singer Andy Timko and his band, a salad bar by Save-A-Lot, dessert from One Hot Cookie, a basket raffle, silent auction, raffle and a cash bar.

Tickets are $30 ($10 for children under 13) and can be purchased in advance at steelvalleywingchallenge.com or by calling Danette Palmer at 330-544-8005, ext. 534. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

To enter the BBQ wing- eating contest, sponsored by the Lake Tavern, to determine who can eat 12 wings the fastest, register at steelvalleywingchallenge.com. The cost is $10 per person (in addition to the cost of an event ticket).

Proceeds will benefit Homes For Kids / Child and Family Solutions. The agency aids children who reside in the foster care system in the Mahoning Valley.
