Men’s horticultural show awarded 23 exhibitors
YOUNGSTOWN
The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown’s 59th annual horticulture show featured a variety of flowers, vegetables and plants from 23 exhibitors.
Matthew Bushlino won best of show in the youth division with his vegetable, candy onions.
In the adult division, Rodney Toth dominated, winning in nine sections. He won best of show with his ornamental gourd ‘‘Indonesian Bottle.’’
Toth also won best annual with his Celosia ‘‘Red Velvet Cake;’’ best perennia`l with his ornamental grass, ‘‘Variegated Arundo donax Peppermint Stick;’’ best in bulbs and tubers with ‘‘American Dream’’ Gladiolus; best in woody plants with Brugmansia ‘‘Pink Delight;’’ and best in hanging containers with his Coleus ‘‘Wedding Train and Peridot.’’
Toth also grew the heaviest tomato (three pounds) and the best Zinnia.
Mark Occionero won best potted plant with his Catlea Orchid hybrid and best cacti with his ‘‘Echinocereus rigidissimus.’’
Robert Voland’s six vegetables won first place in the vegetable section.
Bruce Brungard took first in fruits with his elderberries. Thomas Davis won in the succulents section with his Echeveria ‘‘Tippy.’’ Cindy Salerno took first place in Roses with her hybrid tea ‘‘Crimson Bouquet.’’
Each winner accumulates sweepstakes points.
Bushlino won the sweepstakes in the youth category and Toth was the sweepstakes winner in the adult category.
