Arrested at fair
CANFIELD
U.S. Marshals arrested a man wanted on a child-sex charge from South Carolina at the Canfield Fair.
A spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force said Brandon Walsh, 30, was arrested about 5 p.m. Thursday at a ride he was operating near the Pioneer Village at the fair.
The spokesman said deputies from the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Canfield police and fair police also assisted. Troopers blocked all the exits, and Canfield police set up a perimeter while fair police and deputies searched for Walsh. He was taken into custody without incident. He is in the Mahoning County jail pending extradition to South Carolina.
U.S. Marshals in South Carolina had information Walsh may have been at the fair, and they forwarded that information to their counterparts in northern Ohio.
Scuffle after hearing
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports said a man who had his bond revoked Thursday after a hearing in municipal court faces new charges after assaulting a court security employee and a city police officer.
Terron Jones, 18, whose address is listed as homeless, now faces charges of felonious assault and resisting arrest after he was taken into custody after a court hearing about 1 p.m. Thursday.
Reports said when Jones’ bond was revoked, he resisted being taken into custody, and the court employee and police officer struggled with him in the elevator leading up to the city jail before Jones threw the police officer on the ground.
The security employee was going to use his electronic stun weapon on Jones, but Jones stopped resisting, reports said.
Chased in home
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports said a city police officer Thursday chased a man inside a Hudson Avenue home and up the stairs to a bedroom.
Officers Jessica Shields and Nick Bailey tried to pull over a car about 2:35 p.m. driven by Daquan Lake, 18, no address listed, for running a stop sign. Instead of stopping, Lake drove to a home in the 3000 block of Hudson on the South Side, where he got out of the car and ran inside the house and up the stairs.
Bailey followed Lake inside, and Lake looked like he was carrying a gun, reports said. Reports said Lake locked himself in a room, but Bailey kicked down the door and ordered Lake to the floor at gunpoint.
Inside the bedroom, police found six bags of suspected marijuana. Police did not find a gun, reports said.
Lake was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of obstructing official business and trafficking in marijuana.
Bond replacement
CANFIELD
Mahoning County commissioners have repealed and replaced a resolution issuing $3.9 million in bonds to gain more favorable terms. The bonds will refund previous bonds at a lower rate and represent about $750,000 in savings.
The commissioners also voted to establish a Targeted Community Alternatives to Prison, or T-CAP, fund. This will accommodate a two-year $1.2 million grant that will help the county jail adjust to a state law effective in July prohibiting certain people convicted of fifth-degree felonies from receiving sentences in state prisons.
