Construction begins on home for girl who received liver donation

A $10,000 donation from the Cafaro Foundation is helping Trumbull County Children Services, a county family and a host of volunteers break ground on the construction of a housing addition to help a young girl who received a donated liver.
The progress of the construction was on display Thursday at the home of the family planning to adopt Jamie, 6, and her brother, Jeremiah, 8.
The family already has custody of Jamie and Jeremiah’s siblings but needs more space before they can accommodate Jamie and Jeremiah.
Jamie, a foster child, received a lifesaving liver donation in 2015. Her health has improved, and her body has fully accepted the liver.
In addition to Jamie and her siblings, the family has two biological children, and the three-bedroom home is not large enough to comply with state adoption rules.
The addition being constructed will add two more bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living room. The $90,000 project is still $30,000 short.
Homes For Kids/Child and Family Solutions is the nonprofit partner for the campaign so all donations are tax deductible. The $30,000 can be a mix of labor, supplies or cash donations, Homes for Kids says.
Multiple companies have donated work and materials to the project so far.
Donations can be mailed payable to Homes For Kids and mailed to 165 E. Park Ave., P.O. Box 683, Niles, OH 44446 with “A Home For Jamie and Her Siblings” in the memo line.
