Man faces gun charges after city traffic stop

YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said police found a loaded .380-caliber handgun on a man Sunday afternoon at West Indianola Avenue and Hillman Street after he was pulled over for an improper turn.

Desmond Cochrane, 21, of West Ravenwood Avenue, was booked into the Mahoning County jail on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Reports said an officer found the gun after he searched Cochrane, who was acting very nervous, reports said.

Cochrane said he did not consent to a search but reports said the officer said he was patting Cochrane down because he was acting suspicious and also because he was in an area where gunfire calls are common.
