Man dies after shooting on East Side

YOUNGSTOWN

A man died after being shot Friday at a home near the 1100 block of Verona Avenue on the city’s East Side, according to Youngstown police Lt. Doug Bobovnyik.

The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. His identity was not released.

Police took a person of interest into custody in the woods nearby.

According to police, the suspect will face charges Monday.

If ruled a homicide, the death would bring the total number of homicides in the city this year to 18, matching the city’s total number in 2016.
