Pavel Buchnevich scored twice and added an assist, rookie Boo Nieves had three assists and the New York Rangers beat the winless Arizona Coyotes. Michael Grabner had two goals, Chris Kreider also scored and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 27 shots to help the Rangers get just their third victory of the season in the finale of a season-high six-game homestand. New York shook up its line combinations and played with a traditional lineup consisting of 12 forwards and six defensemen for the first time in a week. It helped the Rangers beat Arizona for the eighth straight time, dating back to March 24, 2014.
Lightning 3, Red Wings 2

Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov became the seventh set of teammates in NHL history to start the season with point streaks of at least 11 games, and the surging Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Detroit Red Wings. Kucherov got his 12th goal in the first period, and setup Stamkos’ power-play goal from the low left circle that put Tampa Bay (9-1-1) up 2-1 at 6:22 of the third. The duo also tied Martin St. Louis’ team season-opening point streak set in 2009-10. Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves in his 100th NHL game and 50th win (50-33-8).
Bruins 2, Sharks 1
BOSTON
Danton Heinen scored both goals and Anton Khudobin made 36 saves to lift the Boston Bruins to a win over the San Jose Sharks. Joe Thornton scored for San Jose, which went 0 for 6 on the power play. The Sharks had one in the final two minutes after Brandon Carlo went off for slashing and got three shots while creating havoc in front of Khudobin but couldn’t capitalize. Heinen scored his second of the game and broke a second-period tie when he tucked a shot inside the left post after Marc -Edouard Vlasic misplayed the puck in the corner at 13:27.
Panthers 8, Ducks 3
SUNRISE, FLA.
Radim Vrbata recorded his seventh career hat trick to lift the Florida Panthers to victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Evegenii Dadanov scored two goals and Vincent Trocheck and Aleksander Barkov each had a goal and two assists for the Panthers while Owen Tippett, the youngest player in the NHL at 18, scored his first career goal. James Reimer made 31 saves. Thirteen players recorded points for the Panthers.
Hurricanes 6, Maple Leafs 3
TORONTO
Josh Jooris scored twice, Teuvo Teravainen had a three-point night and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Toronto Maple Leafs. Victor Rask scored midway through the second period to give Carolina the lead and Brock McGinn and Jooris added insurance goals in the third. Elias Lindholm and Teravainen also scored for the Hurricanes, who ended a two-game losing skid. Auston Matthews, Zach Hyman and Dominic Moore had the goals for Toronto. Carolina pulled ahead by taking advantage of a poor clearing effort by Andreas Borgman behind the Toronto net. Teravainen took possession and fed the puck to Rask, who one-timed it.
Kings 4, Canadiens 0
MONTREAL
Jonathan Quick stopped 40 shots for his 46th career shutout, Adrian Kempe and Tyler Toffoli scored 11 seconds apart in the first period and the Los Angeles Kings beat the Montreal Canadiens. Anze Kopitar and Kurtis MacDermid also scored for the Western Conference-leading Kings (8-1-1), who beat the Canadiens 5-2 last week in Los Angeles. It was Quick’s second shutout this season and came in his 500th career game.
Senators 5, Flyers 4
OTTAWA, ONTARIO
Jean-Gabriel Pageau had a goal and two assists, Erik Karlsson added two assists and the Ottawa Senators beat the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers appeared to score midway through the third period but after a coach’s challenge the goal was reversed due to goaltender interference. Less than a minute later, Tom Pyatt scored at 10:33 to give the Senators a 5-2 lead before Ivan Provorov and Sean Couturier cut that lead to 5-4 with goals three minutes apart later in the period. Dion Phaneuf, Mark Borowiecki and Mark Stone also scored for Ottawa.
Wild 6, Islanders 4
ST. PAUL, MINN.
Eric Staal had a goal and assist, Luke Kunin and Zack Mitchell each scored their first NHL goals, and the Minnesota Wild beat the New York Islanders. Marcus Foligno, Jason Zucker and Jonas Brodin also scored for Minnesota. Devan Dubnyk stopped 29 shots to win for the second time in six starts this season for the Wild. Anthony Beauvillier, Nick Leddy, Anders Lee and Mathew Barzal scored for New York, which had won three in a row. Thomas Greiss finished with 27 saves. Staal scored short-handed to cap a three-goal first-period burst for Minnesota in 7:26. He later assisted on Kunin’s tally as the rookie became the first player in Wild history to score short-handed for his first NHL goal, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
