Quinceanera event

YOUNGSTOWN

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Youngstown Early College students will enjoy a Quinceanera Masquerade Ball on Saturday.

In Hispanic culture, a quinceanera is a coming-of-age celebration, marking a girl’s 15th birthday. It celebrates womanhood, family and community.

YEC students between the ages of 14 and 16 will experience first-hand a quinceanera ceremony and celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. in the Chestnut Room of Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center. It’s a formal event and will include entertainment, music and food.

Traditionally, a quinceanera celebration combines religious customs with themes of family and social responsibility.

Parade canceled

WARREN

The city of Warren Halloween Parade scheduled for noon Sunday has been canceled. No streets will need to be closed. The parade has been canceled out of respect for Girard Police Officer Justin Leo, 31, who was killed in the line of duty last week, and so officers, safety-services forces, civic leaders, first-responders and all those who wish to attend his funeral at Beeghly Center on the Youngstown State University campus may do so.
