Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal accident Thursday morning involving a truck and a pedestrian on state Route 45 in Salem Township.

A pickup truck driven by Michael J. Edmond, 29, of East Liverpool, was traveling north on state Route 45 at 4:21 a.m. and hit Travis Lowther, 42, also of East Liverpool, who police say was standing in the road.

A representative from the Columbiana County Coroner’s Office pronounced Lowther dead at the scene.

Troopers have not yet identified whether drug or alcohol use was a factor in the crash.

No threat or ‘hit list’ at Struthers school

STRUTHERS

Superintendent Pete Pirone said there is no threat or “hit list” in existence circulating Struthers High School.

After a social media post incited panic, Pirone said he contacted police to investigate the matter for students’ safety.

Officer Matt Haus said no threats were substantiated, and the situation is not a police matter as no one is in danger.

“The police and administration worked on the situation and affirmed there was no threat, there was never a threat, and there was never a hit list,” Pirone said. “We will carry on as usual [today] with officers in our building like they are everyday.”
