Unbeaten Canfield, South Range still in control

As the high school football season hits Week 10, the Canfield and South Range football teams remain atop their divisions in the latest computer rankings with both undefeated.

The Cardinals and Raiders have been in first place since the first polls were released in Week 5.

The top eight teams in each region in the final computer polls will advance to the playoffs.

Canfield (27.2111 points) is the only local team in Division III, Region 9 with a shot at the playoffs.

South Range is on top of Division V, Region 17 with 25.5167 points. Crestview (5-4, 9.2944) is in the eighth and final sport in the region. The Raiders will host Lakeview (Pa.) on Friday.

Division IV, Region 13 has seven potential playoff teams from the area. Poland (8-1, 18.4222) is third in the region behind Steubenville and Perry. Lakeview (8-1, 17.2278) is just behind Poland in fourth. Girard (9-0, 14.55) and Struthers (7-2, 14.0167) are in fifth and sixth. Cardinal Mooney (5-4, 12.8444) is eighth and just ahead of Salem (6-3, 12.1667) for the final playoff spot. The Quakers will host West Branch on Saturday.

Western Reserve (7-2, 15.9) is the highest-rated local in Division VI, Region 21. Columbiana (7-2, 13.6389) is sixth. The region has three local teams within one point of eighth place. Springfield (6-3, 11.85), East Palestine (7-2, 11.6889) and McDonald (7-2, 11.1056) are immediately behind No. 8 Columbia.

East Palestine will play Columbiana this week. While Springfield host Waterloo and McDonald travels to Lowellville.

Lisbon (6-3, 9.7944) is fourth in Division VII, Region 25. Valley Christian (4-5, 9.1848) is sixth with Warren JFK (3-6, 5.9949) in seventh. Mathews (5-4, 4.1429) is just outside the eighth spot, coming in at 10th. The Mustangs will host Newbury on Friday.

Division II has two teams trying to hold on. Boardman (5-4, 12.9192) is seventh in Region 7 and Edgewood (7-2, 17.8444) is eighth in Region 8. Edgewood will travel to Niles and Boardman will host Lakeside.

Austintown Fitch (6-3, 16.3737) is ninth in Region 1 and trails Massillon Perry by four points heading into the final week. Fitch will play Mooney at Stambaugh Stadium on Friday.
