Juror missing; Mahoning County murder trial delayed

YOUNGSTOWN — Opening statements today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for the last of three men charged with a November 2015 shooting death have been delayed because a juror failed to report this morning.

Judge Lou D’Apolito delayed the trial for a day to see if the juror could be found. It is hoped the trial can begin Wednesday.

Jawonn Hymes, 26, is accused of the shooting death of Thomas Owens of Burbank Avenue. Owens was shot and killed as he sat in a parked car on West Hylda Avenue on the South Side.

Two other men have been convicted in the case and are serving lengthy prison sentences.
