Ohio 48, Kent State 3

ATHENS

Nathan Rourke threw two touchdown passes to Mason Morgan in a 28-point third quarter for Ohio. Dorian Brown and A.J. Ouellette ran for touchdowns of 39 and 37 yards, respectively, in the third quarter before Morgan’s two touchdown catches for the Bobcats (6-2, 3-1 Mid-American), who led 13-3 at halftime. Rourke also ran for a 6-yard touchdown while Louie Zervos kicked a pair of field goals in the second quarter. Brown led a 336-yard rushing attack with 108 yards on 13 carries and Ouellette adding 91 on 11. Papi White, who was Ohio’s leading receiver when he went out with an injury against Kansas on Sept. 16, returned to action and caught a pair of passes for 82 yards.

Central Michigan 56, Ball State 9

MUNCIE, IND.

Shane Morris and Corey Willis connected for three touchdowns and Central Michigan beat Ball State. Leading 7-6 in the second quarter, Morris passed 34 yards to Tyler Conklin and 31 yards to Willis for scores and Jonathan Ward added a 3-yard touchdown run following a blocked punt for a 28-6 halftime lead. Morris finished 16-of-21 passing for 199 yards and four scores, with Willis catching five passes, including a 63-yard TD, for 98 yards and a career-high three TDs. Ward ran for 97 yards and two scores for the Chippewas (4-4, 2-2 Mid-American).

Miami (Ohio) 24, Buffalo 14

Kenny Young ran 18 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns and Miami of Ohio pulled away in the third quarter to beat Buffalo. Young’s second touchdown was a 35-yarder immediately following a Buffalo fumble early in third quarter, and Alonzo Smith punched in a 1-yard run late in the period to give the RedHawks (3-5, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) a 24-7 lead. The Bulls (3-5, 1-3) recovered an onside kick after Kyle Vantrease’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Mabry with 2:52 left. Buffalo got pushed back by a holding penalty and a sack and ended the game with a four-and-out.

Northern Illinois 48, Bowling Green 17

BOWLING GREEN

Marcus Childers threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns and added 73 yards rushing and Northern Illinois beat Bowling Green. Tommy Mister had 17 carries for 115 yards and a score, and Chad Beebe had six catches for 124 yards and a touchdown for Northern Illinois (5-2, 3-0 Mid-American Conference). The Huskies scored on the opening drive, going 75 yards in eight plays capped by Mister’s 30-yard run. Childers threw an 8-yard scoring pass to Shane Wimann to make it 14-0 with 3:33 left in the first quarter.

Toledo 48, Akron 21

TOLEDO

Logan Woodside tossed five touchdown passes and Toledo ran away from Akron. Woodside finished 17 of 24 for 304 yards to lead the Rockets (6-1, 3-0 Mid-America Conference). Toledo’s Terry Swanson rushed for 123 yards on 20 carries — the 11th 100 yard-plus effort of his career — and Jon’Vea Johnson caught five passes for 102 yards with two touchdowns. Toledo took the opening possession 60 yards over seven plays, culminating with Woodside’s 24-yard pass to Johnson. Woodside found Desmond Phillips on a 40-yard scoring strike later in the quarter. On Akron’s next possession, Thomas Woodson was picked off by Toledo’s Justin Clark at the Akron 36. Three plays later, Woodside hooked up with Danzel McKinley-Lewis for a 13-yard touchdown pass and a 21-0 lead.

Western Michigan 20, Eastern Michigan 17, OT

YPSILANTI, MICH.

Freshman Josh Grant got a shot at redemption and he kicked it through the goalposts in overtime as Western Michigan defeated Eastern Michigan. Grant had missed wide to the right on a potential game-winning kick as time ran out in regulation. The Broncos (5-3, 3-1 Mid-American) scored first in OT, then were called for a pair of penalties that helped Eastern Michigan (2-5, 0-3) reach the 2 before Caleb Bailey and Robert Spillane stuffed EMU in back-to-back tackles. Eagles’ kicker Paulie Fricano’s field goal try just shaved the outside of the right goalpost.
