Austintown Fitch High School will host Lunch with a Veteran on Wednesday with the help of Students Helping Veterans, a new group formed by senior Seth Welch. About 30 veterans are scheduled to have lunch with Austintown Fitch students during all regular lunch periods.
The Austintown VFW, American Legion Post 301, D.A.V. Chapter 2 and the Tri State Marines 494 will be represented. Ken Jakubec, a community volunteer who will be bringing in the veterans from local groups, believes this will be an opportunity for students at Fitch to talk to some local veterans, some highly decorated, and understand what they went through during their time in the service. Many veterans enlisted when they were high-school age and did not go to college because they went to war.
