F.N.B. Corp. reported earnings for the third quarter of 2017 with net income available to common stockholders of $75.7 million, or $0.23 per diluted common share. Comparatively, second-quarter 2017 net income available to common stockholders totaled $72.4 million, or $0.22 per diluted common share, and third-quarter 2016 net income available to common stockholders totaled $50.2 million, or $0.24 per diluted common share.

GM reaches $120M settlement with states over switches

DETROIT

General Motors Co. has reached a $120 million settlement with 49 states and the District of Columbia over its defective ignition switches. GM recalled 2.6 million small cars worldwide in 2014 because their ignition switches could slip from the “run” position to the “off” position, shutting off the engine.

Shares of United Airlines tumble after 3Q report

Shares of United Airlines dropped more than 12 percent Thursday – their biggest one-day percentage decline in eight years – after a contentious conference call that caused analysts to question whether United executives are making progress on their turnaround plan. Analysts speculated whether a management shakeup could be coming.

Pension fund board votes to cut benefits

COLUMBUS

Ohio’s largest pension system has voted to cut benefits for retirees.

The Columbus Dispatch reported the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System voted Wednesday on the plan that would affect all of its more than 1 million members, current retirees and future ones.

The plan approved by the board would reduce cost-of-living adjustments to match the Consumer Price Index, subject to a 2.25 percent cap. The benefit amount is now fixed at 3 percent for those who retired before January 2013.

The proposal requires General Assembly approval.
