ASSOCIATIONS

American Association of University Women, Youngstown branch, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., for a brief business meeting before attending a 6 p.m. public forum on education at the church. The forum will be led by the education committee of the Youngstown League of Women Voters to explore what the values and purpose of our public education system are and the effects of charters and vouchers on public education.

CLASSES

Campbell Memorial High School Class of 1954 will meet for lunch at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bogey’s Restaurant, 3535 Upland Ave. Guests are welcome.

CLUBS

Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will meet Wednesday at Cafe Augustine in the Newport Library, 3730 Market St., Youngstown. Social gathering is at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. GROUPS

Salem Public Library Book Discussion Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St., to discuss the characters in “Mister Owita’s Guide to Gardening: How I Learned the Unexpected Joy of a Green Thumb and an Open Heart,” by Carol Wall. GUILDS

Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild has scheduled the following neighborhood group meeting: Southington So-Sews meet at 10 a.m. at Southington Christian Church, Route 534, Southington, on Monday to embellish totes. St. Patrick Altar Guild will host a card party/bingo/salad buffet event from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick Social Hall, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $6 at the door. There is a handicap-accessible ramp and elevator on the south side of the church. There is also a secured parking lot.

LEAGUES

The GFWC/Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women's League is hosting its second Quarter Auction on Friday at St. Nicholas Social Hall, 764 Fifth St., Struthers. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bidding starts at 6:30. Tickets are $10 each, and the proceeds will benefit local charities. Chips, popcorn, water and soda will be available for purchase. LIBRARY FRIENDS

Austintown Friends of the Library will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the meeting room of the Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road. First ladies Mary Todd Lincoln and Lucretia Garfield, portrayed by Debbie Weinkamer and Marian King, respectively, will be on hand to present “Beyond the Veil: Spiritualism and the Widowed First Ladies.” The presentation is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Anyone interested in joining the Austintown Friends is encouraged to attend. Books (no encyclopedias or textbooks), DVDs, CDs and current magazines can be donated to the Friends on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. until noon at the entrance of the library. The sale of donated items is used to support library programs.

POLITICAL CLUBS

Trumbull County Republican Party will meet for its monthly breakfast gathering at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Girard Multigenerational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave. A continental breakfast will be provided. Central and executive committee meetings will be held in conjunction with the breakfast.

RELIGIOUS GROUPS

St. Rose Quilting Group will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the parish house.

SERVICE CLUBS

SINGLES

D.A.R.E. Singles Group meets at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road. SOCIETIES

William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kravitz’s Deli meeting room, 3135 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Bill Farragher, a pioneer steel industry consultant, will discuss the heritage of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Cost is $5 and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet as follows: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Care Center, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman; 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Education Building, 251 S. Codependency and Grief Support Group will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Sheepfold Ministries, 233 North Ave. Sharon, Pa. A meeting also will take place at 7 p.m. at the care center of the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home, North Main Street, Hubbard. Group sessions are free but participants must register to participate. Friendship Train 12-Step Support Group meets from 6 to 7 p.m., which is a new time, Wednesdays at Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave., Youngstown. People who are trying to overcome any addiction are welcome and encouraged to attend. Those attending should enter through the church’s lower parking lot off Wardle.

NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support groups for those who deal with mental illness. Support groups meet as follows: Girard Family Support, first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St., and Austintown Family Support Group, 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court. NAMI Connection, a support group for people with a mental health diagnosis meets at the following locations: 1:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown; 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays at Alta Care in Austintown; and NAMI Connection for the dual diagnosed at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers its Peer to Peer Class from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Northside Regional Medical Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, Medical Office Building A, Classroom A. It is an eight-week educational program open to adults diagnosed with mental illness. There will be lectures, discussions, exercises and stress management techniques taught.
