Chemical Bank recently donated $4,000 to Warriors Inc., a Youngstown organization on the South Side that provides services and aims to develop youth leaders by coordinating and delivering faith based, social and economic services to underserved individuals.

Food bank support

YOUNGSTOWN

Home Savings Charitable Foundation recently donated a check for $5,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. The funds will be used for the warehouse expansion project. The food bank’s warehouse is on Salt Springs Road. The foundation also recently donated a check for $2,500 to The Education Partnership. The funds will be used for general program support.

Net income increase

NILES

First Niles Financial Inc., the holding company for Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Niles, recorded net income of $143,000 for the third quarter, compared with net income of $16,000 for the same period in 2016.

From Pink Elephant to Thirsty Frog

The Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Thirsty Frog Bar & Grill, 5423 Mahoning Ave. at 4:30 p.m. today.

Jim and Tammy Agler, managing partners of the former Pink Elephant Lounge, have decided to start a new chapter with the Thirsty Frog Bar & Grill, but loyal customers of the popular Pink Elephant will find it still lives on in the new restaurant, located a mile away from the former establishment that had been in business for 50 years.

The Thirsty Frog Bar & Grill features a 12-tap glycol draft beer system and popular craft beers. The restaurant, open seven days a week, will have karaoke Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, while the Queen of Hearts drawings will take place at 8 p.m. on Mondays.

During the grand opening Saturday, the three-piece acoustic band American Made will play from 7 to 9 p.m.Karaoke will follow from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

New DQ site

COLUMBIANA

Ray and Chrissy Smith, owners of the Columbiana, Cornersburg, Boardman and Austintown Dairy Queen stores, recently had a groundbreaking ceremony in celebration of a new Dairy Queen Grill & Chill they plan to open in Columbiana in the spring.

The new DQ store at 44844 state Route 14 will be a $1 million-plus building investment in the city. The 3,300-square-foot facility will feature indoor seating for about 70 guests with an outdoor patio offering additional seating for 16. It also will feature a double-lane drive thru.

Paying dividends

YOUNGSTOWN

Chemical Financial Corp. announced that the board of directors of the corporation declared a fourth quarter 2017 dividend on its common stock of 28 cents per share. The fourth quarter 2017 dividend will be payable on Dec. 15, 2017, to shareholders of record on Dec. 1. The ex-dividend date is Nov. 30.
