Gorant to celebrate Sweetest Day by giving

YOUNGSTOWN — Gorant Chocolatier has partnered with Northeast Ohio Adoption Services to provide sweet treats to the organization’s foster children.

From now until Sweetest Day on Saturday, customers can purchase a candy bar to donate to the children of N.E. Ohio Adoption Services. Gorant will match the community’s donation.

The agency, located in Warren, began in 1978 and provides foster and adoption services to teenage and school-aged children throughout the region.

Sweetest Day roots back from Cleveland, where it originated in 1922. Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist and candy company employee wanted to bring happiness into the lives of orphans and shut-ins. Along with his friends, Kingston started a tradition of collecting candy to bring to underprivileged children.

Since it’s creation in 1922, Sweetest Day has now evolved into a time to express romantic love and friendship. It is celebrated on the third Saturday of every October.
