Charges filed after car with runaway hits Pa. deputy sheriff

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man accused of striking and injuring a sheriff’s deputy with a car while trying to flee with a teenage runaway has been charged with assault.

Two Philadelphia deputies with an FBI task force trying to locate a missing 14-year-old girl from Florence Township, N.J., reported spotting her with a man in a car in south Philadelphia late Saturday.

Authorities said the fleeing car hit one deputy, leaving him with an arm injury and bruises. The car was found nearby and 32-year-old Deven Harley was arrested blocks away. He’s charged with aggravated and simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime and reckless endangering.

The FBI says the runaway wasn’t found and is being sought. The Defender Association of Philadelphia didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
