Brown touts Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 28


AUSTINTOWN — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Cleveland Democrat, backed National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this morning at the Austintown Police Department.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day, on Oct. 28, is a program started by the Drug Enforcement Agency, encouraging people to drop off their unused or out-of-date drugs at designated sites.

Brown said this day is part of an ongoing effort to combat the opioid epidemic

Det. Sgt. Jeffrey Toth of APD, said the township agency was one of the first in the state to participate in take back days in 2009.

The Austintown police department was the first police department to have a drug drop-off box on-site in the Mahoning County that can take out-of-date, over-the-counter and prescription drugs.

The box is in APD’s lobby, and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

On Oct. 28, drugs can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at APD, 92 Ohltown Road; Youngstown State University Police, 266 W. Wood St., Youngstown; Liberty Township Government Building, 1315 Churchill-Hubbard Road, Youngstown; Boardman Police Department, 8299 Market St., Boardman; Hubbard City Police Department, 233 School St., Hubbard; Beaver Police Department, 601 W. South Range Road, North Lima; Canfield Police Department, 104 Lisbon St., Canfield; New Middletown Police Department, 10711 Main St., New Middletown; Cortland Police Department, 400 N. High St., Cortland; Bazetta Township Police Department, 2671 McCleary Jacoby Road, Cortland; Milton Township Police Department, 15992 Milton Ave., Lake Milton.
