Belligerent YSU fan scores a trip to jail

YOUNGSTOWN — A fan at the Youngstown State University football game Saturday is in the Mahoning County jail on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after reports said he became belligerent after being asked to tone down his behavior.

A report from university police said an officer was asked by a fan to speak to Timothy Arbogast, 30, of Weston Avenue, who was in line at a concession stand smoking and who became upset when he was asked to put his cigarette out.

Reports said Arbogast appeared to be very drunk and when asked by the officer to tone down his behavior he refused, saying he was just trying to watch the game and get another beer. Reports said Arbogast put his hand on the officer’s chest and pushed him out of the way, telling the officer to get out of his way so he could get another beer.

Arbogast then was taken into custody, but reports said another officer had to help escort Arbogast out of the stadium, and he yelled at police that he had poison oak and he hoped they would catch it.

He had to be taken to the ground to be handcuffed.

A records check showed that Arbogast also has warrants from municipal court on a 2014 traffic charge. In the university police station he then shouted a racial slur, reports said.

He is expected to be arraigned later today in municipal court.
