$10.5 million in roadwork coming to I-680

YOUNGSTOWN — The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to spend $10.5 million improving bridges and safety conditions along Interstate 680 beginning in the spring and extending through 2021.

The first undertaking, scheduled for spring 2018, will remove the bridge on Interstate 680 between Oak Hill and Ridge avenues. ODOT will replace the bridge with asphalt and fill material.

Interstate 680 northbound will be closed for 30 days between U.S. Route 62 and Edwards Street to accommodate the work.

The work will also reduce I-680 southbound to one lane and close entrance ramps from Mahoning and Oakwood avenues and High and Silliman streets for two consecutive weekends. The closures on Interstate 680 northbound and southbound will not overlap.

Other major projects include maintenance of 11 bridges along I-680 between the Western Reserve Road and state Route 711 interchanges and the installation of 1.8 miles of median cable between the Belle Vista Avenue and North Meridian Road interchanges.

The state Route 711 exit ramp to I-680 southbound will be closed for up to nine months in 2019 and 2020.

Other closures through 2021 will affect Belle Vista, Mahoning and South avenue entrance and exit ramps.
