Patric Hornqvist and Greg McKegg also scored for the Penguins, who are 8-0-2 in their last 10 games against the Panthers — their longest stretch without a regulation loss in the history of the series. Matt Murray stopped 43 shots for Pittsburgh. Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice and Aaron Ekblad also had a goal for Florida. James Reimer made his second start of the season for Florida in place of Roberto Luongo, who is tied with Curtis Joseph for fourth all-time with 454 wins. Reimer made 29 saves.

Tyler Ennis scored two power-play goals for Minnesota, which got 30 saves from Devan Dubnyk. Eric Staal and Landon Ferraro also scored. In the extra time, Artemi Panarin cut to the slot and his shot was stopped by Dubnyk. However, the rebound went off the chest of Wennberg, off his stick and into the Minnesota net.
Maple Leafs 4, Canadiens 3
MONTREAL
Auston Matthews scored his second goal of the game 48 seconds into overtime to lift the Toronto Maple Leafs over the Montreal Canadiens. Matthews finished a 2-on-1 counterattack with William Nylander, beating goalie Carey Price with a shot from the left circle for his fifth goal in five games. James van Riemsdyk and Patrick Marleau also scored for Toronto, which ended a 14-game winless run against Montreal dating to January 2014.
Lightning 2, Blues 1.
TAMPA, FLA.
Nikita Kucherov became the first Tampa Bay player to score in each of the first five games of a season, Andrei Vasilevskiy made 28 saves and the Lightning beat the St. Louis Blues. Tyler Johnson also scored for the Lightning, who have won four of five. Vladimir Tarasenko got his fourth goal and Jake Allen stopped 25 shots for St. Louis, which has lost two in a row following a season-opening four-game winning streak. Kucherov made it 2-0 on a backhander at 6:27 of the third. Tarasenko got the Blues with 2-1 with 3:23 to play.
Devils 3, Rangers 2
NEW YORK
Drew Stafford scored early in the third period, backup goalie Keith Kinkaid stopped 29 shots in his season debut and the New Jersey Devils beat the New York Rangers. Adam Henrique and Miles Wood scored in the second period for the Devils, who bounced back one night after their first loss of the season and improved to 4-1-0. Rick Nash and Kevin Shattenkirk scored for the Rangers, and backup Ondrej Pavelec had 16 saves in his first start since signing with New York in the offseason.
Flyers 8, Capitals 2
PHILADELPHIA
Claude Giroux, Scott Laughton and Sean Couturier each scored two goals to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a victory over the Washington Capitals. Wayne Simmonds, Claude Giroux and Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Flyers in their home opener. Brian Elliott rebounded from a dismal six-goal outing against Nashville to stop 21 shots and win for the third time this season. Jakub Vrana and Nicklas Backstrom scored goals for Washington. Simmonds’ fifth goal of the season came on the power play just minutes into the second period to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead. Backstrom made it 4-2 while Giroux’s goal — which put him 15th on the team’s career list — was still being announced to the crowd. Filppula took a feed from Jordan Weal and flipped it over Phillip Grubauer for a 5-2 lead.
Jets 2, Hurricanes 1
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA
Nikolaj Ehlers scored his team-leading fifth goal during the third period to lift the Winnipeg Jets over the Carolina Hurricanes. Ehlers took a feed from captain Blake Wheeler and wired a shot from the high slot over the stick-side shoulder of goalie Scott Darling 6:03 into the third. Bryan Little also scored for the Jets. Jeff Skinner had a power-play goal for Carolina. On the winner, Wheeler had the puck in the corner and waited for Ehlers to skate himself open. Ehlers, skating backward through the slot from Darling’s right to his left, took the pass and caught the new Hurricanes goaltender going the wrong way, sniping a perfect wrist shot into the corner.
Stars 3, Avalanche 1
DALLAS
Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn each had a goal and an assist in the second period, and the Dallas Stars held off the surprising Colorado Avalanche. Ben Bishop made 21 saves and allowed only a third-period goal by Matt Duchene. Semyon Varlamov made 33 saves for the Avalanche. Benn sent a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle into the upper left corner of the net, assisted by Seguin.
Blackhawks 2, Predators 1 OT
CHICAGO
Brandon Saad scored his sixth goal 3:05 into overtime, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Nashville Predators in their first meeting since last year’s playoffs. Saad beat Pekka Rinne with a one-timer from the left edge of the crease after taking a pinpoint cross-ice pass from Patrick Kane. Corey Crawford made 37 saves for Chicago, which wasted six power-play chances. Patrick Sharp scored with 5:36 left in the third period, spoiling Rinne’s shutout bid and sending it to overtime.
