YOUNGSTOWN
“The Club” has been meeting monthly for 70 years. The meetings began when Frances (Fabry) Tkach and five friends from Hayes Junior High School, started meeting in a chicken coop behind her house on Belmont Avenue.
The ladies’ mothers prepared dinners, and games were played. As they became adults, the meetings were hosted in their homes and now take place at local restaurants.
In addition to Tkach, the original members included Ruth Creighton, Barbara Nageotte, Nancy Olson Hart and the late Carole Cronin and Mary Lou Rice.
Past and present members are Addiem Suhovecky, JoAnn Flamisch Love, Shirley Tyson. The late Rita Mae Fabry Iacobucci and Mary Ann Fabry Lessick, also were members.
A few of the Club projects include making favors for local hospitals and nursing homes for patient lunch trays, and helping some families in need during the holidays.
The group believes that “laughter really is the best medicine.”
