The Canfield Village Middle School seventh-grade football team recently improved to 5-0 with a 18-6 victory over a previously unbeaten Boardman Glenwood squad.
Canfield took possession at their own 26 yard line late in the first quarter and proceeded to drive 74 yards in 12 plays to take a 6-0 lead. The Cardinal’s drive was kept alive by a key fourth down run by fullback Dom Marzano and 15-yard toss from Broc Lowry to Ryan Schneider. Lowry bulled over the goal line from two yards out for the touchdown. Canfield received the second half kickoff and drove 65 yards in 10 plays to extend their lead.
Lowry found tight end AJ Havrilla for a 30 yard gain to the Spartan 12 and Lowry snuck in from the one for a 12-0 Cardinal advantage. Lowry scored his third touchdown of the night when he picked off a wayward Glenwood aerial and sprinted 70 yards to paydirt. Boardman scored in the games waning moments for the final margin. The Cardinal defensive front of Hunter Kanotz, Mateo Riccardi, Aiden Rogers, Antonio Gonzalez and Havrilla were cited for their stellar play along with linebackers Evan Parker, Caden Kohout, Marzano and Schneider.
