Warren police release reports from shooting and crash, but are they related?

WARREN

Warren police reports regarding a Tuesday afternoon shooting on Brier Street Southeast and a crash on Paige Avenue Northeast do not indicate whether the two incidents are related, but police said Wednesday they think they are.

A police report on the shooting on Brier Street says the victim was Shawn T. Flowers, 50, of High Street Northeast.

Shawndon R. Flowers, 22, with the same High Street address, was listed in a separate report as having been involved in the crash that occurred about 50 minutes later on the other side of town. The Vindicator was unable to find out whether the two are father and son, though police suggested they are in radio communications Tuesday.

Flowers and a female in the car were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries, an accident report says.

Jail records show Shawndon R. Flowers being held on several charges starting Tuesday evening, but Warren Municipal Court records only list one new charge from Tuesday – driving under suspension. He was still in jail late Wednesday.

The elder Flowers, meanwhile, was shot after gunfire erupted at a house on Brier Street Southeast at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses told police a small white car fled from the shooting scene.

Shawndon R. Flowers was driving a small white car when it crashed on Paige Avenue Northeast about 4:10 p.m. while police were chasing it, police said. Weapons were found along the route the white vehicle had taken on Paige Avenue, police said.

In the Brier Street shooting, people described hearing about five shots, then four minutes later, another 10 shots.

A witness said people in a small white car and one or more people in a silver Dodge Avenger were shooting at each other as they headed east from the Brier area.
