Stolen equipment

YOUNGSTOWN

A police report said equipment stolen from a Salt Springs Road business early Tuesday was just advertised online the day before.

Officers were called about 1:45 a.m. to ST Sales Inc., a 1195 Salt Springs painting and surface-treatment business, where a witness told police they saw someone load two machines onto a truck and then drive away. Officers discovered a garage door smashed in.

An employee of the business was called, and reports said she told police that the equipment had arrived Monday, and pictures of the equipment were placed online to promote their acquisition.

Fuel spill on Ohio River

WELLSVILLE

Someone working on a barge Tuesday morning noticed a sheen on the Ohio River about 9 a.m. and alerted emergency management officials to a spill of about 300 gallons of diesel fuel.

Peggy Clark, EMA director for Columbiana County, said the spill originated at Anchor Drilling Fluids on Clark Avenue.

She said the spill is under control and Anchor Drilling called in an outside contractor for cleanup.

While officials do not believe a significant amount of diesel fuel reached the Ohio River, containment booms have been set up to prevent it from spreading.

A man who crashed his all-terrain vehicle at high speed into concrete barriers on Dana Street Northeast late Sept. 16 is charged with several offenses through Warren Municipal Court.

Theotis M. Sanders Jr., 39, of Warren and Rome, Ohio, is charged with drunken driving, reckless operation, driving an off-road vehicle on city streets and ignoring a sign warning that the road was closed.

Police said his vehicle was traveling about 50 miles per hour when it struck the barriers in front of the former Delphi Packard Electric buildings, causing him to be thrown about 100 feet down the road.

Warren police said his car was traveling west on Riverview Street when it went through the intersection at Clemmens, traveling through part of a garage at 1706 Parkman Road, then hitting a car parked in the driveway there, then coming to rest at 1708 Parkman Road, damaging the house.
