YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said a 51-year-old Helena Avenue man was shot three times with non lethal ammunition by a member of the Mahoning Valley Crisis Response Team after they were called to his home because he had threatened to kill himself.

Police were called to the home twice, first at 8:05 a.m and then 9:35 a.m. after counselors called them and said he had threatened to kill himself. Police managed to get inside but the man threw things at them and threatened to kill himself, so officers went outside and called the CRT team.

Team members entered the home and shot the man with a bean bag round three times before he was subdued.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for evaluation.
