Brayden Schenn and Vladimir Tarasenko scored shootout goals to lift St. Louis over New York. Andrew Ladd and Anders Lee had scored for the Islanders in the third period to send the game into overtime. Jake Allen denied Jordan Eberle and Anthony Beauvillier in the shootout. Tarasenko opened the scoring at 9:38 of the middle period after he spun past Leddy, then beat Thomas Greiss with a nifty backhand.
Avalanche 4, Bruins 0
BOSTON
Semyon Varlamov stopped 29 shots, Nail Yakupov scored two goals and Colorado continued their recent success in Boston with a win over the Bruins.The Avalanche grabbed a 1-0 lead when Sven Andrighetto’s shot from the slot slipped into the net off Tuukka Rask’s glove 4:41 into the opening period. Yakupov added his second goal of the game with 44 seconds left in the third.
Devils 6, Sabres 2
BUFFALO, N.Y.
Rookie Jesper Bratt and Marcus Johansson each had two goals and an assist and New Jersey earned a victory over Buffalo. No. 1 overall pick Nico Hischier recorded his first NHL point and Cory Schneider made 23 saves for the Devils. Evander Kane scored twice. Chad Johnson stopped 16 of 22 shots before being replaced by Robin Lehner in the third period.
Maple Leafs 4, Blackhawks, 3 OT
TORONTO
Auston Matthews scored in overtime and Toronto came from behind to beat Chicago Blackhawks. Nikita Zaitsev, Connor Brown and James van Riemsdyk also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won their first three games.
Jan Rutta, Jonathan Toews and Richard Panik had goals for the Blackhawks.
Lightning 4, Capitals, 3 OT
TAMPA, FLA.
Brayden Point scored on a power play in overtime, Tampa Bay held high-scoring Alex Ovechkin pointless and the Lightning beat Washington. T.J. Oshie had two goals and an assist, while Nicklas Backstrom added a goal and two assists for the Capitals. Nikita Kucherov tied it at 3 on an in-close backhander at 10:46 of the third. After Alex Killorn and Oshie traded goals early in the second, Chris Kunitz’s redirection cut the deficit to 3-2 with 1:51 left in the period.
