The public is invited to join in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima for the greater Youngstown area with a public square rosary rally Saturday.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral, 159 W. Rayen Ave., with Bishop George V. Murry presiding. At 11:20 a.m., the eucharistic procession from St. Columba Cathedral to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel, will begin.
The event also will include a public recitation of the rosary. People with disabilities and those having difficulty walking can join by car. For information, call Connie at 330-507-3880.
Rachel’s Challenge
AUSTINTOWN
Austintown schools are inviting the public to attend the Rachel’s Challenge Community Event at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Austintown Middle School cafeteria, 900-1104 S. Raccoon Road.
Based on the life and writing of Rachel Joy Scott, who was the first victim of the Columbine school shooting tragedy in 1999, Rachel’s Challenge was created to equip and inspire students to replace acts of violence, bullying and negativity with acts of respect, kindness and compassion.
During the school day Thursday, there also will be three grade-level assemblies followed by a 90-minute “Friends of Rachel” training to establish a club within the school.
Crime watch
NORTH LIMA
The Beaver Police Department’s next crime watch meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at Shepherd of the Valley (main building), 9111 Sharrot Road.
Fire Chief Larry Sauerwein from the Beaver Fire Department will be the guest speaker for the evening, addressing fire safety. Local crime statistics also will be discussed.
