A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:
HUBBARD
Sept. 30
Arrest: Authorities responded to suspicious activity at a vacant home in the 200 block of Clingan Street, then charged Eric Skruck Jr. of North Schenley Avenue, Youngstown, with failure to comply with police after saying Skruck, 23, had refused to cooperate and continually yelled profanities at officers. Also, two bags of suspected marijuana were reportedly found, though no charges had been filed at the time of the report.
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a residence in the 900 block of Saul Drive via the front door. A woman reported her 2014 Dodge Dart vehicle had been used without permission before being returned.
Oct. 2
Theft: A Hillview Drive woman reported an $850 iPhone stolen.
Oct. 4
Arrest: After officers reportedly saw a man lying in a yard on West Water Street next to his bicycle, they charged Daniel L. Benton, 53, of Orchard Avenue, Hubbard, with operating a vehicle impaired. Benton refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test, a report showed.
Assault: An official with Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave., told police a 16-year-old student had slapped another student in the face.
LIBERTY
Sept. 29
Arrest: A traffic stop in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue resulted in the arrest of Michael M. Watkins, 60, of Columbus. He was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in Youngstown Municipal Court.
Arrest: While answering a disturbance call at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, authorities charged John C. Minogue, 40, of Lilburne Drive, Liberty, with intimidation, a third-degree felony, as well as making false alarms and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors, after several workers alleged he had entered a restricted area and harassed another employee. Minogue also called 911 falsely claiming he had been abused and mistreated before threatening to harm an officer and fight with police, a report stated.
Sept. 30
Drugs: A 17-year-old Youngstown girl faced charges of obstructing official business, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as one misdemeanor count of trafficking in marijuana after police had stopped her vehicle on Belmont Avenue. The teen, who refused several times to identify herself, had a bag of suspected marijuana, a digital scale with suspected marijuana residue, a box of sandwich bags commonly used to package marijuana and a device often used to grind marijuana, a report showed.
Theft: A worker for a Belmont Avenue doughnut shop discovered someone had cut and stolen her car’s catalytic converter.
Drugs: After pulling her over near Colonial Drive, police filed a drug-abuse charge against Denise D. Delaine, 47, of Roosevelt Drive, Liberty, after alleging having found in her knapsack a pill bottle that contained a single pill identified as acetaminophen codeine, a narcotic often used to treat moderate to severe pain.
Criminal mischief: A Colonial Drive man discovered a foreign substance had been placed in his vehicle’s gas tank.
Theft: A man who owns a Jackson, Miss., company reported having wired $32,000 to a Youngstown auto business, which in turn wired the sum to a Belmont Avenue bank for a vehicle that was never delivered to the Youngstown business as per a sales agreement.
Oct. 1
Arrest: After an officer reportedly saw someone slumped in a vehicle at a Belmont Avenue restaurant, police charged Keith R. Harris of North Palmyra Road, North Jackson, with operating a vehicle impaired. Harris, 41, refused to undergo a Breathalyzer test, authorities said.
Arrest: While dealing with a disturbance in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue, police charged Amanda L. Phillips, 32, with disorderly conduct. Phillips, of Belmont, Liberty, continued to yell at her boyfriend, despite officers’ advice to desist, they alleged.
Oct. 2
Dog bite: A mail carrier reported a dog had bitten him as he walked through a backyard in the 500 block of Ventura Drive.
Identity fraud: An Adrian Circle woman found out someone without consent had bought five additional phone lines with her account information that resulted in $1,174 worth of fraudulent charges.
Oct. 3
Drugs: Police responded to a report that a man was trying to pass a forged prescription at Rite Aid Pharmacy, 2704 Belmont Ave., before charging Joseph Harris, 33, of Lora Avenue, Youngstown, with drug abuse and illegal processing of drug documents, a fourth-degree felony, after a pharmacist said a doctor told her the prescription form likely had been taken from his office and forged. Harris also faced one felony count of conveyance of a drug of abuse in a detention facility when, authorities alleged, a small amount of suspected marijuana was found as he was booked into the jail.
Harassment: A Logan Gate Road woman said her former boyfriend had threatened to place a lien on her residence if she failed to pay him within a week for work he had done to her home.
Oct. 4
Identity theft: A Maplewood Drive man found out a $242 loan had been taken out under his name without authorization.
Theft: A Boardman woman learned that someone had stolen her bank card and apparently hacked into her account at a Belmont Avenue bank, from which $400 was removed.
GIRARD
Oct. 1
Harassment: Police answered a disturbance call on Reeds Court, where a man said his former wife continually knocked on his front door and windows after having arrived to pick up their children.
Oct. 2
Arrest: Police took Michael A. Kornegay, 18, into custody at his Hazel Street residence. The Girard man was wanted on a felony warrant from Girard Municipal Court charging drug trafficking.
Recovered property: A worker for the street department found a purse that belongs to a Girard woman.
Arrest: Authorities on U.S. Route 422 picked up Brandon D. Phillips, 23, of Kenilworth Avenue Southeast, Warren, who was wanted on two warrants, including one from Trumbull County.
Possible overdose: After responding to a possible drug overdose in the 900 block of North Highland Avenue, officers reportedly found a man near the road who had dilated pupils and slurred, labored speech before he was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Menacing: A Maple Avenue woman said a neighbor and her children continue to yell profanities and derogatory names at the accuser and her children.
Possible overdose: Police were dispatched to a Route 422 fast-food restaurant, where a man reportedly told safety-force members he had taken one month’s worth of his seizure medication in an attempt to commit suicide.
Oct. 3
Arrest: Officers pulled over and charged Brandon Fluegge, 23, with failure to comply with police and operating a vehicle impaired after alleging Fluegge, of North Highland Avenue, Girard, led them on a brief vehicular pursuit beforehand. He also registered a 0.13 blood-alcohol content, which exceeds Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report stated.
Assault: A Girard High School student reported that while walking through a nearby wooded area, two girls assaulted him. One of the girls grabbed the accuser from behind, causing him to fall; the other girl pushed him, resulting in a scratch after the victim hit a tree branch, a report said.
Menacing: A North Avenue woman said a neighbor has expressed hostilities toward her as part of ongoing problems between them.
Oct. 4
Arrest: Boardman police handed Aaron R. Clinkscale, 24, to Girard authorities. Clinkscale, of South Avenue, Boardman, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.
Harassment: An 11-year-old Girard girl reported having received unsolicited calls followed by multiple text messages, some from a person who claimed to be a 31-year-old man before police warned the man to cease contact with the girl.
