LEETONIA

The McKeefrey Farm mansion – called the “mansion on the hill” – caught fire Tuesday, destroying the majority of the historic structure.

The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV reported village fire department officials said the fire began on the third floor of the home and quickly spread through the structure.

Investigations into the reason for the fire are ongoing. The state fire marshal is assisting with those investigations.

The 15,000-square-foot, three-story mansion was built in 1908 and operated as a 500-acre farm. It included eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

Police were called to Jean Street about 11 p.m. Monday for a report of a fight. When they arrived, witnesses told them Morris had argued with his girlfriend and mother of his children, stashing two handguns next to a utility pole down the street.
