Two people accused in the killing of a woman found in a freezer this summer entered not-guilty pleas Tuesday at their arraignment hearing in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Arturo Novoa, 31, and Katrina Layton, 34, both of Mahoning Avenue, face charges of aggravated murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.
Both have been in the county jail on $1 million bond since the body of Shannon Elizabeth Graves was discovered in a freezer in the Campbell home of Novoa’s friend in late July.
Their bonds will continue. The case was assigned to Judge Lou A. D’Apolito.
Drug overdose
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports said police are treating the death of a 42-year-old woman early Tuesday inside a home in the 3800 block of Sheridan Road as a drug overdose.
When police and paramedics arrived at the South Side home about 4:35 a.m., they found the woman unconscious in a bathroom. Reports said paramedics declared the woman dead at the scene.
A man who lived in the home said the woman had a long history of drug addiction, reports said.
He awoke and found the woman on the floor and called police, reports said.
Senior services

Joseph Rossi, chief executive officer of the Area Agency on Aging 11 Inc., will present information at 6 tonight at the township government center about the county’s senior levy and the services that levy funding provides.
The levy was approved by voters in March 2016, and senior levy services kicked in this summer.
The government center is located at 3339 Dobbins Road. Refreshments will be provided.

Jhamiere Mann Clarke, 15, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment hearing Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to charges stemming from an attack on a Youngstown woman in February
Mann Clarke is charged as an adult after a grand jury indicted him on charges of attempted murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
According to police, Mann Clarke’s mother turned him into officials after she found out he was wanted for allegedly shooting Ellen Zban of Youngstown after first demanding her wallet Feb. 6.
Police say when they arrived, they found Zban, 45, sitting in her car. She was shot three times, once in her eye, her shoulder and her arm. She survived the shooting.
The court continued Mann Clarke’s $250,000 bond and assigned the case to Judge R. Scott Krichbaum.
