Division II
District competition is today for the boys at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna.
Local teams competing will be Poland, Ursuline and Cardinal Mooney.
Girls will be competing at Tam O’Shanter and the local teams are Cardinal Mooney, Columbiana, Lakeview and Champion.
Individuals who qualified are Kelly Wlodarsky from Ursuline, Madison Horavth from Springfield and Gabrielle DiCesare from South Range.
“Our district has some really solid competition, including regional competition like NDCL, Hawken and Orange as well as area teams like Mooney, South Range and Poland,” said Matt Morgan, Ursuline boys and girls golf coach.
Ursuline’s boys golf team came in second place during the sectional at Windmill Lakes.
This is the second straight year that Ursuline’s boys team and a member of the girls team has qualified for district.
Morgan said the teams put in a lot of time and hard work to prepare themselves from a physical and mental standpoint.
Ursuline is not in a conference, so the schedule is mostly dual matches with teams out of the area.
The Irish also compete in as many 18-hole invitationals.
“It’s no secret that the best way for high school golfers to prep for events like sectionals, districts and state is to get consistent instruction from an experienced instructor from an early age and to compete in as many regional spring and summer junior events as possible,” Morgan said.
The top three teams and individuals will qualify for state.
division iii
Local boys teams competing in the district Wednesday at Tannenhauf are Brookfield, Bristol, Warren JFK, and Columbiana. Zavier Bokan from McDonald and Jake Sylak from Mineral Ridge qualified as individuals.
