Campbell ARCC gets architect and new funding goals
CAMPBELL
The city school district’s major building project now has an architect – and a goal for its next phase.
The Activity Recreation and Cultural Center, the district’s estimated $11 million new facility, will be designed by Olsavsky Jaminet Architects Inc. of Youngstown.
Olsavsky Jaminet also has designed Campbell Memorial High School, Campbell K-7 school and the Campbell athletic complex.
The ARCC is a multiuse community center that will house athletic facilities, multipurpose rooms, space occupied by educational and public-service partners and an auditorium.
The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will rent space inside the ARCC for a new Campbell branch after the former library’s closure in June due to roof damage.
Olsavsky Jaminet and a group of architects chosen by the library will collaborate on any design aspects relating to the space they have rented.
The library will operate under a $525,000, 50-year lease agreement with the district, with the option to leave the ARCC after 10 years if they’re unsatisfied with the agreement.
In addition to its lease, the library also will provide for its own maintenance and utilities.
Schools Superintendent Matthew Bowen said the project is currently on schedule.
“We’re on schedule to break ground on the ARCC next summer, and expect to have the project finished by fall 2019,” he said.
Along with the announcement of the project’s architects, Bowen also said the ARCC is moving into its second development phase – raising funds for the auditorium.
The district is campaigning to raise $4.5 million for the construction of the 600-seat auditorium.
Bowen said the auditorium was a pivotal piece of the ARCC, representing the cultural aspect of the building’s name and acting as a center for growing and promoting the arts.
“I’m hopeful going forward into this second phase that our community will continue to support the project and help us to build the auditorium,” Bowen said. “I couldn’t be happier with the progress we’ve made.”
