YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Police Department will have its third annual Fill A Cruiser Event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Christine Church, 3165 South Schenley Ave., to collect Christmas toys to be given away to needy families. The department’s Community Police Unit hands out the toys throughout the city to families who need help at Christmas.

Other agencies will also be on hand.

Last year the department was able to help 22 families.

Man beaten, robbed

YOUNGSTOWN

A man told police Monday evening he was beaten and his car taken in a yard in the 3200 block of Hudson Avenue.

Reports said officers were called to the street about 9:30 p.m., where the man said he heard an alarm go off across the street from his home.

When he went to investigate, two men appeared, one of them with a gun, demanded money, then pistol-whipped him and went through his pockets, taking the keys to his vehicle, which they then drove away.

The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with injuries to his head and face.

Panel discussion

BROOKFIELD

Frackfree Ohio will host a panel discussion Thursday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Brookfield Fire Hall at 774 state Route 7 for Brookfield citizens about five proposed fracking waste injection wells planned for installation in the township. Topics will include the proximity of the planned wells to residential areas and earthquake activity related to fracking wells.

Tree-lighting event

NEW MIDDLETOWN

New Middletown village will host a Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the municipal building, 10711 Main St. Mix 98 will provide music as well as the Springfield Fourth Grade Elementary Choir. Refreshments will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a camera so their children can have free pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Free gunlocks

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Free gunlocks and personal firearms record booklets are available to anyone during regular business hours at the New Middletown Municipal Building, 10711 Main St. With the hunting season here, it is important that gun owners take responsibility and make sure that weapons are locked when not being used.
