YSU goes winless in South Dakota

Senior Cameron Morse scored 12 points with five assists but the Youngstown State men’s basketball team dropped an 81-53 decision to South Dakota on Sunday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon.

Morse, who averaged 17.7 points per game over the weekend, was named to the Sanford Pentagon Showcase All-Tournament Team. Morse connected on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor and had two 3-pointers.

The Penguins fall to 2-5 while the Coyotes improve to 6-2 on the season. Head coach Jerrod Calhoun is still looking for his first win against a Division I opponent.

Sophomore Jeremiah Ferguson tied a career-high with 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting.

South Dakota led the entire game and shot 54.4 percent from the field and made 10-of-19 from 3-point range.

The Penguins connected on just 37.7 percent from the floor and committed 19 turnovers that led to 18 South Dakota points.

Youngstown State returns home to host Robert Morris, Wednesday, Nov. 29. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.
