Submit information for holiday services

The Vindicator will publish a listing of area services open to the public in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The list of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services will run Dec. 16 on the Religion page. The list of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day services will run Dec. 23 on the Religion page.

The deadline to submit information is noon on Dec. 12.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb and time of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day services. The information should be accompanied by a name and a phone number for verification or any questions.

Free community dinner

There will be a free neighborhood community dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Orthodox Center, 1025 N. Belle Vista. The dinner is sponsored by Sts. Peter and Paul Ukranian Orthodox Church.

Catholic Charities to host 2nd Sip and Shop

Catholic Charities of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will host its second annual Sip and Shop Pop-Up Boutique from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, which is also known as Giving Tuesday, at St. Columba Hall, 159 W. Rayen Ave.

All proceeds help to provide emergency assistance – food, shelter, clothing, utility assistance and essential medication – to families served by Catholic Charities’ agencies throughout the Diocese of Youngstown. Benedictine Sisters offer Day of Spirituality

The Benedictine Sisters of the Byzantine Church at Queen of Heaven Monastery are offering a Day of Spirituality in preparation for Christmas from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 9.

St. Lucy to celebrate its 80th anniversary

St. Lucy Church, 394 Tenney Ave., will celebrate its 80th anniversary by celebrating the Feast of Santa Lucia on Dec. 13.

The Holy Liturgy of the Mass will take place at 5:30 p.m. Bishop George Murry will be the celebrant, and Rev. Monsignor Peter M. Polando is pastor. A sit-down dinner reception will follow the Mass at Our Palermo Center.

Reservations are required by Friday. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children age 10 to 17. Payment must accompany reservations.

‘Expect a Savior’ journal is available

“Expect a Savior,” a spiritual journal for the Advent and Christmas season is available for purchase.

Written by James Bird from the Shenango Valley, it follows the seasonal lectionary and offers reflections and visual motifs for personal journaling and growth. It is appropriate for high-schoolers and older, individuals and faith-sharing groups.

St. Columba to present Advent Procession

St. Columba Cathedral , 154 W. Wood St., will present its annual Advent Procession of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Dec. 3. The service will feature the Cathedral Choir under the direction of Daniel Laginya, the cathedral lectors coordinated by Laura Elder and students of the parish led by Sister Martha Reed, O.S.U.

The program is based on the ancient traditional “O Antiphons” and culminated with the Annunciation narrative.

The event is free and open to the public. Security and ample free parking will be provided. A reception will follow in St. Columba Parish Hall.

Irish ensemble Danu to perform at Grove City

Helping kids through holidays after a loss

Children and teens from 6 to 16 years old are invited to join and share ideas and feelings relating to the holidays when a loved one has died.

The event will include Memory Ornaments, discussion and sharing, Healing Stones, a balloon release, memory chains, family tree and more. Snacks and lunch will be provided.
