Audubon Society to talk turkey at Nov. 28 meeting
The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “Let’s Talk Turkey” at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the Canfield library. How did the turkey get its name? What is a group of turkeys called? How long do turkeys live? How fast can they run and fly? Find out the answers to these and other interesting “turkey facts” with Bob Coggeshall, including many photographs of turkeys taken in Mill Creek Park.
November is diabetes awareness month

Question Me workshop offered at the library
On Nov. 28 at 10. a.m. at the Boardman library, learn to use the interview format as a way to invoke stories. Have you ever had a terrible haircut? What would you say to a young person whose heart is freshly broken? The group will use questions like these as a way into intriguing story writing. Join the Boardman library every Wednesday at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader. This program is catered to children ages 2-3.
Bond with babies and books
Every Tuesday at the Boardman library at 10 a.m., caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months will have 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize.
Local authors to meet at the library
Meet local authors and have a book signed. This meet-and-greet and book-signing for local authors will take place on Nov. 30, from 6-8 p.m. at the Boardman library. Authors interested in participating should call the Development Office at 330-740-6086. This event is free and open to the public.
Junior League hosts membership recruitment
Since its founding in 1901 by social activist Mary Harriman, The Junior League has evolved into one of the oldest and largest women’s volunteer organizations in the world. The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) is now 160,000-plus members strong with 291 Leagues in four countries. In continuing that long tradition, the Junior League of Youngstown is hosting a membership recruitment event on Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Vintage Estate in Boardman. The group is inviting interested women from the Mahoning Valley to meet local members and to learn more about the league’s spirit in voluntarism, leadership development and opportunities and our impact in the community. The Junior League of Youngstown is partnering with Sassy Sisters Boutique on the go to have a pop up boutique at the event. They will bring the fashion and latest styles. Wardrobe items are handpicked by two Sassy Opposite which allows something for everyone. As a member of The Junior League, you will have opportunities with unique volunteer experiences, new friendships and a path to improve personal and professional skills. Fundraise and shop with softball booster bus trip
The Canfield High School Softball Boosters are hosting their third annual New York City Holiday Shopping and Tourist Site Blitz Dec. 15-17. Spend the day as you wish or join the group at the scheduled bus drop-off and pick-up points (approximate 2.5 hour intervals), including Rockefeller Center, Battery Park (9/11 Memorial), Union Square, Garment District and Times Square. The cost is $139 per person if paid in full by Oct. 21, $134 per person for repeat travelers and $149 per person without a discount. All payments are due by Nov. 15 and no refunds will be issued after this date. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. This is a round-trip from Canfield High School to New York City. GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend.
