Woman receives jail time for drunken crash that left two injured

An Austintown woman who caused an accident while driving drunk and injured two others will serve 10 days in jail.

Alexis Wilson, 23, of Ascot Court, pleaded guilty to vehicular assault and operating a vehicle under the influence for her role in the crash. Prosecutors said Wilson ran the red light at South Avenue and Western Reserve Road while driving with a blood-alcohol level of .201, more than twice the legal limit.

The occupants of the car she hit sustained collarbone and pelvis injuries, prosecutors said.

Wilson also sustained an injury to her left arm that she said will leave her permanently disabled.

“You say it’s irony that she is the one that’s most seriously injured,” Judge R. Scott Krichbaum said. “I say it’s justice.”

Wilson expressed regret for her actions and said she may never be at peace.

In addition to 10 days in jail, she received five years’ probation and a three-year driver’s license suspension.

Wilson’s attorney said he expects a pending civil case to provide restitution to the victims.
