The City of Youngstown seeks applications for participants in its holiday parade and Christmas tree lighting scheduled for Dec. 1.

Five area marching bands and multiple floats already have registered to participate in the parade sponsored by Home Savings Bank.

Columbiana dog licenses on sale

LISBON

Dog licenses for 2018 for Columbiana County residents go on sale Dec. 1 through Jan. 31.

State law says all dogs 3 months of age and older harbored in the county must be licensed. The registration fee for the one-year license is $10; the three-year license is $30; and the permanent license is $100. Electronic transactions are also possible for current account holders at www.columbianacountydoglicense.com, beginning Dec. 1. A convenience fee will be assessed for all electronic transactions.

Dog license applications and payments may also be mailed to the Columbiana County Auditor’s Office, 105 S. Market St., Lisbon, OH, 44432, with a postmark of Jan. 31 or earlier.

YSU ranks among best online choice

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University ranks among the Best Online Colleges in Ohio by College Choice.

Specifically, YSU ranked 15th of 25 colleges listed.

“Of the 12,643 students enrolled, 23 percent of undergraduates and 33 percent of graduate students use some form of distance [online] education,” according to Best Online Colleges. Ohio State University was ranked the Best Online College.

Kids encouraged to drink more water

The Delta Dental Foundation selected Boardman High School as a recipient of a program that encourages children to drink more water during the school day.

Boardman High School will receive two new drinking fountains/bottle filling stations with the grant. The school also will receive reusable water bottles for all staff members and students.

“I’m always looking for ways to help our students become healthier. Thanks to Delta and the fun new water-bottle filling stations, our students and staff can drink more water and have fun doing it,” said district food service Director Natalie Winkle.

Driver reports seeing bear in area

NEW MIDDLETOWN

A driver reported seeing a “large black bear” on state Route 170 in the village Monday, according to a news release from the police department.

Police Chief Vincent D’Egidio said that officers looked for the bear for several hours Monday morning, but that no other sightings were reported.
