In its Nov. 20 edition, USA Today named the “Best malls to shop on Black Friday” in each of the 50 states. The choice for Ohio: Eastwood Mall in Niles. The newspaper cited the fact that the mall has more than 200 stores and restaurants.

Holiday gas prices

GasBuddy projects that Thanksgiving will see the highest average gas prices since 2014 as the country prepares for the busiest traveling weekend of the year. The number of Americans driving is expected to surge by 20 percent over last Thanksgiving according to GasBuddy’s Annual Holiday Travel Survey.

GasBuddy projects the national average gas price this Thanksgiving will be $2.53 per gallon, the priciest Thanksgiving in three years when gas was $2.79, though not as high as the peak on Thanksgiving in 2012 of $3.44.

Auto safety group seeks Chrysler Pacifica recall

DETROIT

An auto-safety group is asking the government for a recall of Chrysler Pacifica minivans over complaints that the engines can stall without warning.

The Center for Auto Safety petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday, asking for an investigation and a recall of 150,000 minivans from the 2017 model year.

The group says more than 50 people have complained to the government about stalling, and Fiat Chrysler hasn’t been able to fix the problem. Some have complained that the vans have stalled several times.

Fiat Chrysler says it takes customer concerns seriously and doesn’t know of any crashes or injuries due to the issue. The company says it’s monitoring data and will respond if it shows a safety defect.

Before elephants, US loosened limits on lion trophies

WASHINGTON

One month before the Trump administration sparked outrage by reversing a ban on trophies from threatened African elephants, federal officials quietly loosened restrictions on the importation of heads and hides of lions shot for sport.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service began issuing permits Oct. 20 for lions killed in Zimbabwe and Zambia between 2016 and 2018. The agency is also studying whether to add three additional countries to the list – Mozambique, Namibia and Tanzania.

Previously, only wild lions killed in South Africa were eligible to be imported.
