CRAFT SHOWS
Christmas on the Farm, a craft and gift market, is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Molnar Farms, 3115 E. Western Reserve Road, Poland. There will be several local vendors with hand-crafted gifts and decorations for the holiday season. Take your list and find jewelry pieces, intricate handmade quilts or hand-spun alpaca yarn, homemade goat’s milk soap, artwork and handcrafted treats. Find everything you need to deck the halls for the holiday with hand-made décor and candles. Entry is free and open to the public.
Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, 3813 Hadley Road, will host a craft sale and bake and rummage sale with a basket auction and lunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 2. Crafters and vendors will offer Christmas decorations, toys, jewelry, household items and more.
Mahoning Valley Historical Society is hosting the second annual Christmas Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Tyler History Center, 325 West Federal Street in Youngstown. The Historical Society is seeking vendors for this show which will be a combination of handmade artisan crafts and holiday treats. Holiday crafters, cookie bakers and candy makers are encouraged to participate. Table spaces can be reserved for $30. St. Anne Ukrianian Church will host a dessert walk and craft show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 16 in the church hall at 4310 Kirk Road, Austintown. Vendors are needed for cookies, pies, cakes, kolachi, pumpkin rolls, clothespins, soup and dip mixes, crafters and more. Tables are $35 for an 8-foot table with chairs. A portion of the proceeds benefits the church’s program for collecting and giving toys to needy children for Christmas. DANCES
Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., is offering community dance lessons at 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Each lesson is one hour, and the cost is $5 per lesson. Niles Friendly Squares will offer square dance lessons from Jan. 9 through April at Niles S.C.O.P.E. Center, 14 E. State St. An introductory session will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 9. Sessions are designed to cover steps in the basic square dance program. Gene Hammond will be the instructor. There is a fee of $6 per lesson. FUNDRAISERS
Campbell Memorial Marching Band is inviting the community to a bus trip to the “Big Apple,” to explore its scenery. Cost is $99 per person. The bus will depart from Campbell Memorial High School at 11 p.m. Dec. 8 and return around 7 a.m. Dec. 10. All seats are on a first-come, first-served basis, and payment is due when reservations are made. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds benefit the Campbell Band Program. Winona Area Historical Society will sponsor its sixth annual Christmas in the Country fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at the recently restored 1835 Quaker Meeting House, at the corner of Cameron Street and Winona Road. Handicap accessible and free parking. Featured will be wooden boxes, toys game boards and ornament, wreaths, fabric and knitted items, repurposed horseshoe items and more. All are handcrafted and donated by local artisans for the support of the historical society’s museum and meeting house projects.
Youngstown Shrine Club will host a chili cook-off Saturday during the Ohio State/Michigan football game at the club, 1735 W. South Range Road (Route 165), North Lima. First Friday Club Speakers Luncheon Series will host Diana Hayes, JD, Ph.D., STD, at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 7 at The Georgetown, 5945 South Ave., Boardman. Hayes, emerita professor of systematic theology at Georgetown University, is the first African American woman to earn a pontifical doctorate in theology and she will speak about “Standing in the Shoes My Mother Made: A Womanist Theology.” Cost is $16, and reservations are limited. Polar Run will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Austintown Fitch school campus. Registration will take place in the band hallway at Fitch (South Circle Entrance). The students have partnered with the Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini Foundation to raise money for the Hope House, a social services organization dedicated to reuniting families impacted by drug abuse, domestic violence, custody battles and other obstacles. Sutliff Museum, 444 Mahoning Ave., Warren, has opened a new exhibit that will be open to the public through January 2018. The exhibit is “Musicians and Scholars: the Dana Family of Warren, Ohio.” It explores the origin of the Dana family, through the relationship of Dana to the Sutliff family through Mrs. Phebe Lord Martin Sutliff.
