Howling Howland dog is finalist on TV show contest

Pam Baker of Howland has a golden retriever with a golden voice.

The dog, named Oscar, might even win his master a five-night vacation on a tropical island.

Oscar is one of three finalists in the Bow Wow Wow contest on syndicated talk show “Kelly and Ryan,” which airs weekday mornings at 9 a.m. on 21 WFMJ-TV.

The public can vote – once every 24 hours – until 10 p.m. Sunday, and the dog with the most votes wins. The winner will be announced Monday on the show.

The 3-year-old dog always begins to howl – seemingly in tune – when Baker plays the song “The Prayer” by Andrea Bocelli on the piano.

“Whatever song that I play, he will sing. And his inflections in his voice, he tries to match the tune of the song, “ Baker told The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.

Oscar has been singing along to her tunes for about a year.

“He keeps improving and getting better and better since he first started singing,” said Baker.

The grand-prize winner of the contest will receive a six-day, five-night vacation trip for two in an oceanfront room at the St. James Club-Morgan Bay, on St. Lucia.
