YOUNGSTOWN

A federal judge sentenced a Cleveland man who attempted to film people showering at Geneva State Park to 20 years in prison.

James Sullivan, 60, pleaded guilty in May to access with intent to view child pornography. U.S. attorneys dropped a charge of attempted production of child pornography.

Law-enforcement officers found a computer containing 100 images of child pornography at his apartment.

Judge Benita Y. Pearson sentenced Sullivan on Thursday to 20 years in prison with 10 years’ parole. She also imposed $7,600 in fines.

Sullivan has previous convictions of attempted rape, burglary and gross sexual imposition, U.S. attorneys said.

New YPD officer

YOUNGSTOWN

The police department swore in a new officer Friday.

Breanna Jones, 25, took the oath as patrolman from Mayor John A. McNally. She will begin training next week.

Jones is a graduate of the police academy at Youngstown State University, and she previously worked for the Goshen Police District and Struthers Police Department.

Pot, gun charges

WARREN

Police found a loaded .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun in a car they pulled over about 4:55 p.m. Thursday at a Parkman Road Northwest gas station for too much window tint.

Jalyn Smith, 23, of McMyler Street, the driver, was taken to the Trumbull County jail on charges of possession of marijuana and carrying concealed weapons. Reports said he told police the gun was in the car, and he also gave police a bag of marijuana he had in his pocket.

Police arrested a passenger, James Keeney, 27, of Parkman Road Northwest, on two warrants from municipal court for driving under suspension.

YNDC project

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. and Hope for Renewal will fix up a four-unit building at 2906 Glenwood Ave. today starting at 8:30 a.m. People who want to help can meet at that time at 820 Canfield Road before proceeding to the project site.

Sutliff open house

WARREN

The Sutliff Museum, 444 Mahoning Ave., is hosting a fall open house from 1 to 4 p.m. today to celebrate Thanksgiving. The public is invited to enjoy apple cider and popcorn along with a visit to the museum and a craft for children of all ages.

Story time will take place at 2 and 3 p.m. The museum is decorated for fall with decorations enhancing the Sutliff family artifacts. On exhibit through December are “Timeless Stories: American Girl Historical Doll Collection” and “Musicians and Scholars: The Dana Family of Warren, Ohio.”

Budget hearings

WARREN

The Trumbull County budget hearings will begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 27 in the commissioners’ meeting room on the fifth floor of the administration building, 160 High St. NW.

The meetings, conducted by the commissioners and county auditor, are open to the public.

Among the hearings scheduled for Nov. 27 are domestic relations/juvenile courts, clerk of courts, common pleas court and adult probation, treasurer, board of elections, sheriff and 911 center.

Among the hearings on Nov. 28 are prosecutor’s office, coroner, planning commission, recorder and auditor.
