Windsor House at Canfield, Mahoning Valley’s newest skilled nursing center, hosted its grand opening celebration, which included a ribbon cutting, tours of the facility and refreshments on Oct. 22.
Windsor House at Canfield comprises 60,000 square feet consisting of 72 private resident rooms, a large state of art therapy gym and numerous other amenities include chapel, beauty/barber salon, caf and library.
Windsor House, Inc. has been working on this project for more than two years as a Join Economic Development District (JEDD) was formed between Windsor House, Canfield City and Canfield Township. This is the first JEDD formed in Mahoning County and the only skilled nursing center in Canfield.
Attending the grand opening were City Council members, Township Trustees and Administrators, Fire Chief Don Hutchison, Mayor Bernie Kosar, Senator Joe Schiavoni and residents and staff of Windsor House at Canfield.
John Masternick, president of Windsor House, welcomed the large crowd to the grand opening.
“Welcome to Windsor House at Canfield. I have so many people to thank for this beautiful facility. We would not be here without the cooperation of a lot of people. Senator Joe Schiavoni was a big help and has always been an advocate of the long-term care industry. City Council President Don Dragish, Mayor Bernie Kosar and Township Trustee Marie Izzo-Cartwright worked together to bring this project to fruition. We would literally not be here if it weren’t for the cooperation between the city and the township. They didn’t think this project should die,” Masternick said.
Masternick then introduced Mayor Kosar.
“Thank you, John, for taking our vision and expanding on it. I did not envision this being so beautiful. Thank you for your patience and thank you for coming to Canfield,” Kosar said.
After his remarks, Kosar presented Masternick with a key to the city.
City Council President Don Dragish then approached the podium to address the crowd.
“I would just like to thank everyone for this beautiful facility. It is a great business to bring to Canfield. John, you and your family and very gracious and it shows in this project,” Dragish said.
Masternick then introduced Township Trustee Marie Izzo-Cartwright.
“Thank you, John, for coming to our community. As a result, our residents can have their health care needs met and can stay close to home,” Izzo-Cartwright said.
As the final speaker, Masternick introduced Sen. Schiavoni.
“I appreciate the opportunity to be here today. The Masternick family has always been a big help to the Mahoning Valley. Their family has improved the quality of life for so many. I know it is a difficult decision for families to make about loved ones, but when you have good people who you can trust on this side, it makes all the difference in the world,” Sen. Schiavoni said.
A ribbon cutting took place, with all attendees then invited inside the facility for tours and refreshments.
