The Poland library hosted Listen and Create on Sept. 25 for young children that included a story and craft based around the autumn season.
Librarian Amanda Koller greeted the children and read “Fall is Not Easy“ by Marty Kelley at the library’s Children Activity Room. The story revolves around a tree’s inability to correctly change its leaves colors for autumn.
After the story, the children filed out of the room and sat at the crafting tables outside of the meeting room. Koller prepared a number of crafts for the children to create. The younger children worked on coloring a cut out paper tree and gluing it to a piece of construction paper. Other children created the more complex craft. One child did both crafts.
The complex craft asked the students to color the outline of a couple trees, paste it to a plastic sandwich bag and paste the bag to a piece of construction paper. Before gluing the bag, the children put scraps of colored paper in the bag to look like leaves. The finished product looked like an autumn setting with leaves that fall from the trees.
The library hosted this event for the first time this month, but they will continue the program monthly.
