The third-graders of Dobbins Elementary School performed a fall concert honoring veterans on Nov. 9 in the auditorium of Poland Seminary High School.

Dana Veneskey directed and taught the third-grade choir. Veneskey herself served in the military.

“I think it’s important to instill a pride of the military in the students,“ Veneskey said. She has taught at Dobbins for three years and has done a patriotic fall performance every year.

Michael Daley began the program by talking about the freedoms that the veterans give us, as well as introducing Veneskey. Before the third grade sang, select members of the high school show choir and a saxophone quartet performed. The singers did “The Star Spangled Banner“ and “God Bless the U.S.A.“ The quartet performed a patriotic sequence.

The third grade went on stage following these performances. The choir began their show with the “Armed Forces Medley.“ Members of the military stood during this song when their branch’s anthem played.

The choir followed this song with “Thank You Soldiers“ by Michael and Angela Souders.

They finished the night off with “Lights of Freedom,“ which began with two vocal soloists. When the full choir sang together, the auditorium lights went off. During the song, the students named different states and turned on a flashlight.

The spectacle received applause from the audience.
