Canfield Village Middle School’s fifth- and sixth-grade Drama Club presented Supper with Shakespeare Oct. 20-22. The event started with a medieval-style dinner served in the cafeteria, followed by the show in the CVMS theater.

‘Supper with Shakespeare’ featured more than 40 CVMS students serving as actors and members of stage crew, lighting and props. The show was a selection of some of Shakespeare’s most famous scenes with characters including Romeo, Juliet, the Nurse, Hamlet, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and the three witches. Selected sonnets were also performed.

Under the direction of CVMS Drama Club Director Jennifer Kuczek, the students performed Act One, which included, “All the World’s A Stage,” with Georgie Zordich in the role of Jacques; “Sonnet 18’ recited by Isabella Helidonas; a scene from “Macbeth,“ with Lady Macbeth played by Riley Piver, Gentlewoman played by Ryleigh Koren and Doctor played by Raven Fox; a scene from ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ with Lady Capulet played by Cadence Richley, Nurse played by Sydney Howard and Juliet played by Inayah Bajwa; “Sonnet 1” recited by Simardeep Kaur; a scene from “Romeo and Juliet,” with Juliet played by Karley Gerst and Nurse played by Allison Powell; a scene from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” with Bottom played by Karsten Miller, Queen Titania played by Emma Drombetta, Peaseblossom played by Sophia Scarmack, Mustardseed played by Ava Nagi, Cobweb played by Linley Underwood and Moth played by Aubrey Vernon; a scene from “Romeo and Juliet” with Romeo played by Travis Mills and Juliet played by Ally Vernon; “Sonnet 14” recited by Harjote Kaur; a scene from “Romeo and Juliet” with Nurse played by Addison Hanousek and Juliet played by Fallon Amedia; a scene from “Macbeth” with the Three Witches played by Larissa Palotsee, Whitney Miller and Lucia Schaab and a scene from “The Tempest” with Prospero played by Campbell Klingensmith.

After a 15-minute intermission, Act Two began with “Sonnet 98” recited by Sophia Scarmack; a scene from “Antony and Cleopatra,” with Cleopatra played by Emily Heino; a scene from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” with Helena played by Briahna McCombs; a scene from “Hamlet,” with Hamlet played by Topher Drombetta; a scene from “Macbeth,” with Hecate played by Kendall Bailey; “Sonnet 24” recited by Aubrey Vernon; a scene from “Henry VIII,” with Katherine of Aragon played by Anneliese Kirr; “Sonnet 134” recited by Linley Underwood; a scene from “Romeo and Juliet,” with Mercutio played by Carson Nagy, Benvolio played by A.J. Mangiarelli, Romeo played by Travis Mills and Tybalt played by Harrison Miller; “Sonnet 73” recited by Gracie Laatsch; a scene from “Romeo and Juliet,” with Princess played by Elyse Huffman and a scene from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” with Puck played by Malia Swartz.

Lord Capulet was played by Sam Wogan and Lady Capulet was played by Cadence Richley, with Erica Kovach playing the Court Jester. Kendall Johnson played the Scullery Maid. Taylor Conrad and Ava Littler played Guards and were the stage crew, with Anthony Scarmack and Rylee Reese serving as student assistants. Cara DeChurch served as the student director/fight choreographer.

At the end of the performance, each student took a bow on stage as the audience gave them all a standing ovation. Kuczek thanked the audience for coming.

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you so much for coming this evening,” Kuczek said.
