Monday Night Writers meeting scheduled for Nov. 20
The next meeting of Monday Night Writers will be Nov. 20, from 6-8 p.m. in the small meeting room at the Canfield library. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend. Led by professional writer, Nancy Christie, author of “Traveling Left Of Center And Other Stories” and “Rut-Busting Book for Writers,” the two-hour sessions offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on works-in-progress. Canfield Senior Class Craft Show has 29th year
The 29th annual Canfield High School Senior Class Craft Show will take place on Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the high school. There will be 200 different and unique vendors setting up shop. Students from the class of 2018 will be assisting with all aspects of the event. Parking and admission are free. Overflow parking is available. Join high tea with the Hopewell Theater
The Hopewell Theatre (formerly the Victorian Players) will host a Victorian high-tea fundraiser on Nov. 19, from 3-6 p.m. at the Piccadilly Parlour, located at 114 S. Broad St. in Canfield. Proceeds from this fundraiser will support the handicap accessibility project. A luncheon will be served, beginning at 3:30 p.m., and will consist of a cup of soup (your choice), tea sandwiches, sweets and tea or coffee. Entertainment will be provided as well. A vendor who specializes in jewelry made from silverware will be on the premises with hand-made jewelry items for sale. There will be a live auction of unique vintage items and a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds from the auction will go to the handicap accessibility project as well. Door prizes will be awarded and Victorian dress is encouraged but not necessary. Due to limited seating, reservations are required. The cost is $30 per person. $15 of the ticket price is tax deductible. Food drive at Canfield Village Middle School
The Canfield Village Middle School student council is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. Non-perishable food items will be collected in homerooms from Nov. 8-30. Last year, CVMS families donated 2,733 pounds of food for Second Harvest Food Bank. There are donation boxes in the school lobby. The most needed items year-round are peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna fish, dry pasta, canned soup, macaroni and cheese, boxed stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, gravy mix and canned yams.
Audubon Society to talk turkey at Nov. 28 meeting
The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “Let’s Talk Turkey” at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the Canfield library. How did the turkey get its name? What is a group of turkeys called? How long do turkeys live? How fast can they run and fly? Find out the answers to these and other interesting “turkey facts” with Bob Coggeshall, including many photographs of turkeys taken in Mill Creek Park.
November is diabetes awareness month

Get up and move during story time
“Gotta Move Story Time” is for children who are ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a care-giver. Join the Canfield library every Thursday at 10 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m. for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development and motivate language learning. Adults and children, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, talk and play.
Tales and talk offered at the library
Join the Canfield library every Tuesday at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader. This program is catered to children ages 2-3.
Bond with babies and books
Every Thursday at the Canfield library at 10 a.m., caregivers and their little ones who are ages 6-23 months will have 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize.
Join the November book club meeting
The Canfield library’s monthly book club, “Off the Shleves,” will be discussing “News of the World” by Paulette Jiles on Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. “Britt-Marie Was here” by Fredrik Backman will be December’s read, and “The Widow” by Fiona Barton will be discussed in January.
Join a chair yoga class

Hoarding: a simple look at a complex disorder
Molly Suehr and Rachel Cline, trained under the direction of Cory Chalmers, host of A&E’s “Hoarders” TV show will help participants understand hoarding disorder at the Canfield library on Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m. The presentation will provide a definition, an idea of the prevalence of hoarders, the varying levels of hoarding and the differing hoarding types. What type of person hoards? You may be surprised. This event is for adults.

Fundraise and shop with softball booster bus trip
The Canfield High School Softball Boosters are hosting their third annual New York City Holiday Shopping and Tourist Site Blitz Dec. 15-17. Spend the day as you wish or join the group at the scheduled bus drop-off and pick-up points (approximate 2.5 hour intervals), including Rockefeller Center, Battery Park (9/11 Memorial), Union Square, Garment District and Times Square. The cost is $139 per person if paid in full by Oct. 21, $134 per person for repeat travelers and $149 per person without a discount. All payments are due by Nov. 15 and no refunds will be issued after this date. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. This is a round-trip from Canfield High School to New York City. GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg).
