No. 9 North Carolina 93, Bucknell 81

Luke Maye scored 20 points and No. 9 North Carolina held on to give coach Roy Williams his 400th victory at the school, a win over Bucknell in the on-campus round of the PK80. Theo Pinson added a career-high 19 points for the Tar Heels, who shot 47 percent and welcomed back Final Four Most Outstanding Player Joel Berry on the same day graduate transfer Cameron Johnson was lost for 4-6 weeks following knee surgery. Sterling Manley had 16 points and 13 rebounds and Garrison Brooks and Kenny Williams had 10 points apiece for North Carolina, which held a 47-28 rebounding advantage. Williams improved to 400-115 since returning to his alma mater in 2003, and won his 200th game at the Dean E. Smith Center.

No. 14 Minnesota 107, Niagara 81

MINNEAPOLIS

Amir Coffey, Reggie Lynch and Jordan Murphy all scored 18 points as No. 14 Minnesota pulled away from Niagara for a victory. Lynch and Murphy posted double-doubles, with Lynch grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds and Murphy checking in with 11. Nate Mason added 15 points and 11 assists for the Golden Gophers. Kahlil Dukes hit five 3-pointers and led Niagara with 26 points. Matt Scott added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Marvin Prochet had 10 points and 12 boards for the Purple Eagles.

Creighton 92, No. 20 Northwestern 88

ROSEMONT, ILL.

Khyri Thomas had a career-high 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, Martin Krampelj added a career-high 17 points and Creighton beat No. 20 Northwestern in a Gavitt Tipoff Games matchup. Ty-Shon Alexander had 14 points and Marcus Foster had 12 for the Bluejays. Vic Law had a career-high 30 points and Bryant McIntosh added 24 for Northwestern. Law scored 12 straight Northwestern points early in the second half to lead a furious comeback from a 51-43 halftime deficit. Creighton is 12-1 against teams from the Big Ten since November 2011.

No. 22 Seton Hall 84, Indiana 68

NEWARK, N.J.

Desi Rodriguez scored 23 points, keying a balanced scoring attack and leading No. 22 Seton Hall to a convincing victory over Indiana in the Gavitt Tip Off Games at the Prudential Center. The victory was the third straight for the Pirates to start the season. Rodriguez was one of four Pirates to reach double figures. Angel Delgado added 19 points and 11 rebounds. Khadeen Carrington scored 17 points and Myles Powell tossed in 11. Devonte Green paced Indiana with 16 points and Robert Johnson added 12.

No. 24 West Virginia 98, American 64

MORGANTOWN, W.VA.

Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles scored 20 points each to lead No. 24 West Virginia to a victory over American. WVU shot 12 of 32 (37.5 percent) from the field in the first half and finished the game shooting 32 of 63 (51 percent). Beetle Bolden added 16 points for West Virginia and freshman Teddy Allen scored 14 points in his home debut. Lamont West scored 12 points, 10 from the free throw line. Wesley Harris led West Virginia with eight rebounds. Sa’eed Nelson led American with 17 points and Larry Motuzis added 15.

WOMEN

No. 2 Texas 100, McNeese State 34

AUSTIN, TEXAS

Ariel Atkins scored 23 points and No. 2 Texas made eight 3-pointers in the first half as the Longhorns rolled to a win over McNeese State. Texas forced 11 turnovers in the first quarter and turned them into 19 points and made five 3-pointers in bolting to a 32-8 lead. Atkins outscored McNeese by herself with 15 points on 5 of 5 shooting, including three 3-pointers in the half. Texas reached the 100-point mark for the first time since the 2013-2014 season against Sam Houston State.

No. 9 Ohio State 99, Idaho 56

COLUMBUS

Linnae Harper had 18 points and a career-high 18 rebounds and No. 9 Ohio State beat Idaho for the 1,000th victory in program history. At 1,000-428, Ohio State became the ninth Division I women’s program to reach the milestone. Stephanie Mavunga scored 14 of her 17 points in the first half and had 14 rebounds for Ohio State. She had her 40th career double-double by halftime. Harper had 13 rebounds in the first half. Kelsey Mitchell added 16 points for Ohio State, Sierra Calhoun had 15, and Jensen Caretti 14. Mikayla Ferenz led the Vandals with 17 points.

No. 13 Tennessee 89, James Madison 60

KNOXVILLE, TENN.

Jaime Nared had 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists as No. 13 Tennessee never trailed in an rout of James Madison. Rennia Davis added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Vols. Mercedes Russell had 14 points and eight rebounds. Lexie Barrier scored 14 points, Kelly Koshuta had 13 and Kamiah Smalls added 10 for James Madison. Tennessee scored the game’s first nine points and never looked back. The Lady Vols capitalized on strong ball movement, as they had assists on 21 of their 33 baskets.
